In The Montagu Bar & Champagne Lounge

After five years away from The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa it is great for me to be back behind the bar here at the hotel as Head Bartender and mixologist.

I have spent my time away traveling the world, working on cruise ships and learning new techniques and new meeting many cocktail experts and am thoroughly excited to be bringing this knowledge back to Bath with me.

In August I was delighted to be entered to take part in the UKBG (UK Bartenders Guild) National Cocktail Challenge 2015. Although I have competed and won competitions before, this has been my first competitive experience since I was UK national Bartenders guild champion in 2009, so was not expecting to come away with anything……

The day of the competition was full of nerves, I told myself repeatedly that this was all about experience and getting back into competing. I competed with our Hotel signature cocktail ‘Queen of The Blues’, a wonderful cocktail that includes delicious Taittinger Champagne and Blue Curacao. After I’d created the cocktail I had to wait for the judges to do the rounds, it seemed like a lifetime of waiting but finally the finalists were announced. In all honesty I wasn’t paying much attention to the announcements as I’d been out of the game for so long I never expected to even be considered, then I heard ‘The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa’ announced as a finalist, to say I was shocked was an understatement. Now I await the national finals in early 2016, of which the winner will represent the UKGB in Japan at the IBA WCC in 2016.

Fingers crossed that 2016 is an award winning year….. watch this space
