The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is delighted to announce the completion of a multi-million pound refurbishment programme. The programme has been a labour of love for the last year and the new look hotel was unlocked on 30 April 2014.
Every effort has been made to restore this stunning Grade 1 listed building sympathetically to its Georgian roots, whilst combining the luxury and technologies of the 21st century. The Royal Crescent is a world heritage site and a British icon and the owners have invested heavily to position the property globally as one of the finest five star establishments. The refurbishment programme was managed in a phased way, so that the hotel could continue to operate. The Dower House which houses 10 bedrooms, The Montagu bar and Dower House Restaurant was first to complete in October 2013. A state of the art kitchen was installed to ensure Head Chef David Campbell and the team have the best equipment to serve their 3 AA Rosette menus.
Jane Clayton Interiors a Somerset based interior design company was appointed to work with Brian Cohen, project manager on behalf of the hotel’s owners Topland Group Plc. A mixture of silk and velvet fabrics have been used to enhance the elegant and restful interior. There is a 1920’s feel throughout the property, including the use of mirrored furniture and light fittings. Silk wallpaper is used in several of the bedrooms and in The Dower House Restaurant. Ciara Donegan, Design Team Leader at Jane Clayton Interiors said: “We specified a stunning silk paper from Fromental for the back wall of the restaurant. The delicate colouring of this beautiful hand painted and embroidered paper creates a soft, and subtle backdrop for the room, echoed in lovely wall and ceiling lights from Porta Romana which feature a floral pattern.”
The Montagu bar is offset by deep blue walls and original hotel artwork; all of which creates a comfortable club like feel to the room, a lovely space in which to enjoy pre-dinner drinks. Attention to detail has not been spared with menu covers for The Montagu and Dower House Restaurant designed to complement the surroundings.
The Spa (formerly The Bath House) has been given a new lease of life by specialist firm Spa Creators. Alistair Johnson Director of Spa Creators said: “Spa Creators were delighted to be selected by Topland Group to work on such a prestigious project. Spa Creators focus of the spa development was to improve the guest experience and general fabric of the spa to improve operations. “The challenge with this project was the age and historical significance of the building and maintaining the image and character of the building within our interiors scheme.” The Spa interior embraces both ancient and modern spa culture, with fine architecture enhanced by natural woods, bamboo, pebbles and slate. A true holistic haven to relax and unwind. The bedroom that stands out in the hotel’s refurbishment is the Duke of York Master Suite. It really is the jewel in the crown with a stunning period plasterwork ceiling, lovingly restored and an original fireplace dominating the room. The views from the Duke of York Suite are breath taking too, over-looking the Royal Crescent front lawn with views beyond of The Royal Victoria Park.
All of the suites within the property are named after famous Bath residents, the Sir Percy Blakeney being the only fictional character in recognition of Baroness Orczy. The author of The Scarlet Pimpernel.
Sharon Love, General Manager is ecstatic the project has now finished. “The hotel is absolutely stunning, we are thrilled with its new look. The team have been so supportive throughout the refurbishment. I am delighted that at last they have the property they so rightly deserve”.
