The building of the iconic Royal Crescent in Bath was started in 1767 by John Wood the Younger, took eight years to complete and included some of the grandest houses in Bath. It is an architectural Masterpiece by any standards combining total uniformity and understated gracefulness with sweeping lawns in front and stunning views over the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath.
The Royal Crescent Hotel is at its heart and has to be the finest location of all Bath hotels with its wonderful ‘secret’ gardens, its exquisite spa, a renowned Award Winning restaurant and the splendid accommodation. It truly is your luxury experience in Bath.
Such harmony, restraint and elegance, plus the gently sloping sweep of grass that stretches before it, always has the same effect; whether you are seeing the crescent for the very first time, or for the hundredth, it is a sight that never fails to draw a gasp of amazement.
When the famous literary hostess, Mrs Elizabeth Montagu, came to live at No.16 in 1780, she declared that, “The beautiful situation of the crescent cannot be understood by any comparison with anything in any town whatsoever.”
Over two centuries later it is hard to see how any sensible observer could reasonably challenge this bold claim.
And as one of our most discerning guests so eloquently put it:
‘I consider that staying at The Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath is one of my great luxuries. Whether I am performing at the Theatre Royal or visiting the great city of Bath, I always look forward to having my favourite hotel as my base.’ David Suchet MBE
